Days after the Astroworld festival turned deadly, numerous questions about all facets of the case remain unanswered.
But Houston Police Chief Troy Finner clarified previous remarks that investigators were looking into the possibility that a security guard had lost consciousness after “someone injected him in the neck with an unknown drug.”
FESTIVAL PROBE: Houston Police Chief Finner rejects call for outside investigation into the Astroworld tragedy
Finner’s remarks had gained widespread attention as many wondered if drug overdoses or a bad batch of drugs could have caused so many concertgoers to fall ill. They were fueled by scores of videos and images that spread across social media of concertgoers receiving chest compressions or sprawled on the ground, unconscious.
But in his news conference on Wednesday, Finner said investigators had tracked down the security guard and spoken with him.
“His story is not consistent with (being injected)," Finner said. "He says he was struck in the head, he went unconscious. He said no one injected drugs in him.”
