Teyana Taylor Confirms Separation from Iman Shumpert After 7 Years of Marriage - Entertainment Tonight

Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert have parted ways. On Sunday, the "Gonna Love Me" singer shared the news via a statement on Instagram.

"AHT AHT! Not too much on my bestie! In all fairness, Iman and I are separated and have been for a while," Taylor wrote next to a picture of her and Shumpert dressed as Wayne and Garth from Wayne's World.

The A Thousand and One actress went on to shut down recent speculation that she and the former NBA star's marriage is ending as a result of cheating.

Mat Hayward/Getty Images for Focus Features

"To be 1000% clear, "infidelity" ain’t one of the reasons for our departure," she added. "We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our 2 beautiful children. Most importantly we are FAMILY & in the 10yrs together, 7yrs married we ain’t ever played with or about THAT."

Taylor's statement continued informing her followers that she and The Chi actor have decided to keep the news to themselves, ensuring a smooth process for their family.

Gilbert Carrasquillo/GC Images

"We just keep y’all asses out the group chat lol, which is the reason we’ve been able to successfully & peacefully separate without all of the outside noise," she said. "The only reason I’m even sharing THIS part of the chat is because the narratives are getting a little out of hand & it’s unfair to all parties involved. I hope this provided some clarity for y’all. Okay AunTey taking y’all back out the chat bye! 😘❤️đŸŒč."

Shumpert has yet to speak out.

Taylor's news comes after rumors began circulating around the internet that the former basketball star was cheating on Taylor.

Fans also noticed that Taylor and Shumpert -- who were often public with their romance -- have not attended any events together and have not appeared on each other's social media in months. In June, the "Bare Wit Me" singer penned a special birthday message to Shumpert.

"Your birthday will always be one of my favorite days…..Because on this day 33 years ago a super dope human being was born. My Bestfriend, my husband, my children’s dad, my other half. Crazy how ya bday feels like my day cause you a gift. One of the greatest gifts I’ve ever received. Happy bday king! @imanshumpert đŸŒčđŸŸđŸ„‚," she wrote.

Taylor, 32, and Shumpert, 33, tied the knot in 2016. Together, the pair are parents of Iman "Junie" Shumpert, 7, and Rue Rose Shumpert, 3.

In May, Taylor spoke to ET about Shumpert's support for her role in the remake of White Man Can't Jump.

"I'm not going to be married to who I'm married to and then like sign on to do a movie, [where] I gotta hear his mouth, you know what I'm saying?" she told ET.

The actress shared that Shumpert visited the White Men Can't Jump set while filming The Chi and gave his approval. In turn, she dished on his acting skills.

"Yeah, he's doing his thing, he's really killing it," she said proudly. "He's a few seasons in now, so he's been up and throughout The Chi. But he came to set a few times so I was like, 'Yo, y'all better show out. You better step it up!'"

Jann Wenner Removed From Rock Hall Board After Times Interview - The New York Times

The Rolling Stone co-founder’s exit comes a day after The New York Times published an interview in which he made widely criticized comments.

Jann Wenner, the co-founder of Rolling Stone magazine, has been removed from the board of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, which he also helped found, one day after an interview with him was published in The New York Times in which he made comments that were widely criticized as sexist and racist.

The foundation — which inducts artists into the hall of fame and was the organization behind the creation of its affiliated museum in Cleveland — made the announcement in a brief statement released Saturday.

“Jann Wenner has been removed from the board of directors of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation,” the statement said. Joel Peresman, the president and chief executive of the foundation, declined to comment further when reached by phone.

But the dismissal of Mr. Wenner comes after an interview with The Times, published Friday and timed to the publication of his new book, called “The Masters,” which collects his decades of interviews with rock legends like Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen and Bono — all of them white and male.

In the interview, David Marchese of The Times asked Mr. Wenner, 77, why the book included no women or people of color.

Regarding women, Mr. Wenner said, “Just none of them were as articulate enough on this intellectual level,” and remarked that Joni Mitchell “was not a philosopher of rock ’n’ roll.”

His answer about artists of color was less direct. “Of Black artists — you know, Stevie Wonder, genius, right?” he said. “I suppose when you use a word as broad as ‘masters,’ the fault is using that word. Maybe Marvin Gaye, or Curtis Mayfield? I mean, they just didn’t articulate at that level.”

Mr. Wenner’s comments drew an immediate reaction, with his quotes mocked on social media and past criticisms unearthed of Rolling Stone’s coverage of female artists under Mr. Wenner. Joe Hagan, who in 2017 wrote a harshly critical biography of Mr. Wenner, “Sticky Fingers,” cited a comment by the feminist critic Ellen Willis, who in 1970 called the magazine “viciously anti-woman.”

Mr. Wenner did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Saturday evening.

Mr. Wenner founded Rolling Stone in 1967 with the music critic Ralph J. Gleason and made it the pre-eminent music magazine of its time, with deep coverage of rock music as well as politics and current events. Much of it was written by stars of the “new journalism” movement of the 1960s and ’70s like Hunter S. Thompson. Mr. Gleason died in 1975.

Mr. Wenner sold the magazine over a series of transactions completed in 2020, and he officially left it in 2019. Last year, he published a memoir, “Like a Rolling Stone.”

Mr. Wenner was also part of a group of music and media executives that founded the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation in 1983, and inducted its first class in 1986; its affiliated museum, in Cleveland, opened in 1995. Mr. Wenner himself was inducted in 2004 as a nonperformer.

The Rock Hall has been criticized for the relative few women and minority artists who have been inducted over the years. According to one scholar, by 2019 just 7.7 percent of the individuals in the hall were women. But some critics have applauded recent changes, and the newest class of inductees includes Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow and Missy Elliott, along with George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine and the Spinners.

Ashton Kutcher resigns from anti-child abuse charity over support for rapist Danny Masterson - BBC

Ashton KutcherGetty Images

Ashton Kutcher has resigned from his anti-child sex abuse charity following outrage over a letter of support to a judge after Danny Masterson's rape conviction.

In his resignation to the charity, Thorn, Kutcher said his support letter was an "error in judgement".

Masterson was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for the rapes of two women.

A similar letter was sent by Kutcher's wife, actress Mila Kunis.

The letters and subsequent apology from Kutcher and Kunis - both of whom starred in That 70s Show alongside Masterson - were widely criticised by victims and advocacy groups.

In a resignation letter directed to the board of Thorn and posted online, Kutcher said his decision to step down from the board is "rooted in the recognition of recent events".

"After my wife and I spent several days of listening, personal reflection, learning and conversations with survivors and the employees and leadership at Thorn, I have determined the responsible thing for me to do is resign as chairman of the board, effective immediately," Kutcher said in the resignation letter.

"I cannot allow my error in judgment to distract from our efforts and the children we serve," he added.

Established by Kutcher and ex-wife Demi Moore in 2012, Thorn focuses on combatting sexual exploitation of children.

Much of the group's focus is on the Internet and the role it plays in the spread of child sexual abuse material and sexual slavery. To date, the group claims to have identified 27,000 child victims and removed more than two million potentially sexual abuse files from the internet.

In his resignation message, Kutcher said his letter of support for Masterson - in which he described him as someone who treated people with "decency" and "generosity" - was "yet another painful instance of questioning victims who are brave enough to share their experiences".

"This is precisely what we have all worked to reverse over the last decade," he added.

TIFF Audience Award Predictions: What Movie Will Get an Oscar Boost? - Variety

What will the people choose?

In its final stretch, on Sunday, the Toronto International Film Festival will announce the film chosen by the public for the People’s Choice Award of its 48th edition. After “Poor Things” took home the Golden Lion at Venice, we look to the Canadian awards season staple to boost a film in the hunt for best picture.

The top prize has become one of the most vital predictors of awards season success. In past years, best picture winners such as Peter Farrelly’s “Green Book” (2018) and Chloe Zhao’s “Nomadland” (2020) made a winning stop at TIFF before getting Oscar glory. Other TIFF Audience Award recipients such as “The Fabelmans” (2022), “Belfast” (2021), “Jojo Rabbit” (2019), “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” (2017) and “La La Land” (2016) are among the movies that went on to receive noms.

So, which movies are buzzing with support? The movie that wins at TIFF is often tied to two critical factors — the number of attendees and the timing of its first screening.

Read: Variety’s Awards Circuit for the latest Oscars predictions in all categories.

The fest started with the North American premiere of GKids’ “The Boy and the Heron,” the first animated feature from legend Hayao Miyazaki in a decade, which played to a sold-out screening. The positive reception could give a boost as it heads into a season where it will face the blockbuster hit “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” from Sony Pictures. The campaign team will also need the help since the 82-year-old filmmaker isn’t doing any promotion for the film.

Colman Domingo in “Rustin David Lee/Netflix © 2022

After the first weekend, when most of the World Premieres occur, many attendees and journalists head home, leaving acquisition titles and films that bowed at other fests to fight it out for those still around.

George C. Wolfe’s historical biopic “Rustin” is a crowd-pleaser and is said to have played to rapturous applause on Tuesday. However, its star Colman Domingo, who received one of the TIFF Tribute Awards, had another hit at the fest, the independent “Sing Sing,” which tells the story of a theater group made up of formerly incarcerated actors. Domingo was allowed to promote due to receiving a SAG interim agreement, and his presence helped the movie garner a four-minute standing ovation. That could give the movie an edge over his civil rights movie from Netflix, or worse yet, create a vote split. Nonetheless, he remains one of the leading contenders in the best actor race.

With that said, I suspect Alexander Payne’s “The Holdovers,” with Paul Giamatti and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, will be the one to be named the people’s choice. The Focus Features movie was popular based on social media reactions and in-person conversations with some festival-goers. It’s the type of dramedy that mass audiences respond to, which helped TIFF runner-up flicks like “St. Vincent” (2014) and “Philomena” (2013). This could get over the finish line.

MGM

American Fiction

We’re watching out for the two surprise hits out of TIFF — Ava DuVernay’s “Origin” and Cord Jefferson’s “American Fiction” — that each brought down the house at their initial screenings. Even though they explore varying subject matter within separate genres, the brilliant writing may create divides among general consumers. But movies labeled “difficult to watch” like “Roma” (2018) managed to at least get in the top three before receiving 10 Oscar noms. Even the slave epic “12 Years a Slave” (2013) managed to win the Toronto People’s Choice for Steve McQueen before winning best picture. In the style of an Alexander Payne movie like “Sideways” (2004), Jefferson’s comedy about Black exploitation could be in the running with its sharp satire and fantastic performances.

There’s always room for surprises. No one expected Nadine Labaki’s “Where Do We Go Now?” (2011) to take the award over the eventual international feature winner “A Separation” during that year, while David Cronenberg’s “Eastern Promises” (2007) dropped a few jaws went it won over the future original screenplay winner “Juno.”

Potential shockers could be GameStop stock drama “Dumb Money,” the prize, especially since its director Craig Gillespie nearly won the TIFF award for “I, Tonya” (2017). With a large ensemble and a timely story, the Sony film could accelerate its chances in adapted screenplay (and maybe more).

The Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones legal dramedy “The Burial” from Maggie Betts was also gobbled up at its Monday evening premiere. A quintessential crowdpleaser, it could make pundits believe in the Amazon MGM title.

Variety’s top 10 TIFF Audience Award projections are below. Also, read the latest Oscar predictions in all categories.

Netflix's live-action One Piece to set sail with even more episodes - The Verge

/

One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda says even more episodes of Netflix’s live-action adaptation are on the way.

Netflix’s live-action One Piece adaptation is better than it has any business being, and the streamer intends to keep all of the first season’s good momentum going with even more episodes, according to Eiichiro Oda.

In a move that only comes as (a bit of) a surprise given how opaque Netflix likes to be about the logic behind its choice to cancel some shows just as they’re really taking off, Oda announced today that the live-action One Piece has been renewed for an unannounced number of new episodes / seasons. In an announcement video featuring one of One Piece’s transponder snails, Oda thanked fans, new and old, for supporting his work and said that “it’ll still take a while to get the scripts ready, so please be patient.”

“It seems people around the world have been enjoying the show, which makes the hard work from the production team truly worth it,” Oda said. “To everyone who’s been a fan of One Piece for years, and to those who experienced One Piece for the first time, thank you so much.”

Between Hollywood’s ongoing double labor strike and the lack of a production timeline, it’s not clear when in the future viewers might see Luffy and his crew next. But given how the show’s first season really only scratched the source material’s surface, there’ll be no shortage of inspiration for One Piece’s creative team to tap into when they begin production on what’s in the pipeline.

Bill Maher to resume show despite ongoing Hollywood strikes - The Hill

Bill Maher to resume show despite ongoing Hollywood strikes  | The Hill

Comedian and political commentator Bill Maher said he will resume his show, “Real Time with Bill Maher,” on HBO despite the ongoing strikes in Hollywood.

“Real Time is coming back, unfortunately, sans writers or writing,” Maher wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “It has been five months, and it is time to bring people back to work. The writers have important issues that I sympathize with, and hope they are addressed to their satisfaction, but they are not the only people with issues, problems, and concerns.”

Maher said he was hopeful the strikes would come to an end by Labor Day and noted there “still seems to be nothing happening.”

“I love my writers, I am one of them, but I’m not prepared to lose an entire year and see so many below-the-line people suffer so much,” Maher wrote. “I will honor the spirit of the strike by not doing a monologue, desk piece, ‘New Rules’ or editorial, the written pieces that I am so proud of on ‘Real Time.’”

Maher said he would tell the audience upfront the show without his writers will not be “as good” as the normal show.

“But the heart of the show is an off-the-cuff panel discussion that aims to cut through the bull**** and predictable partisanship, and that will continue. The show will not disappoint,” Maher continued.

The strike by members of the 11,000-member Writers Guild of America (WGA) began in May after failed contract negotiations with the studio chiefs of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

The strike marks the longest strike in WGA history and has paused TV and film productions in Hollywood for more than 100 days

SAG-AFTRA, the largest union for Hollywood actors, joined the strike two months later in July after failing to reach an agreement with film studios, marking the first dual strike since 1960.

Both unions are demanding better wages and working conditions as well as higher residual rates related to streaming.

Many late-night shows including NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” and ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” remain out of production as a result.

A group of late-night TV hosts announced last month they would come together on a new podcast that seeks to financially boost staffers impacted by the writer’s strike.

Olivia Rodrigo Was Rushed Offstage During Her VMAs Performance, But It Was Part of the Show - Yahoo Life

Olivia Rodrigo has delivered the first award show performance of her Guts era. The singer sang “Vampire” on stage at the MTV VMAs in front of a crowd that included Taylor Swift, whom some fans speculated the song could be about. Rodrigo, of course, addressed that rumor during her recent interview with The Guardian, noting she was a little shocked by it.

“How do I answer this?” she started. “I mean, I never want to say who any of my songs are about. I’ve never done that before in my career and probably won’t. I think it’s better to not pigeonhole a song to being about this one thing.” She then added, of the Swift theory in particular, “I was very surprised when people thought that.”

On stage at the VMAs, Rodrigo began with a heartfelt, impressive vocal performance of “Vampire” before pieces from her set started toppling over, pyrotechnics fired off erratically, and the camera feed began glitching. Members of the audience were shown curiously looking at the stage, even Selena Gomez seemed confused. But it all turned out to be a very convincing stage trick and an intentional nod to Rodrigo’s “Vampire” music video, which shows her being escorted offstage mid-performance.

Moments later, she picked back up with her song “Get Him Back!,” joined onstage with a troupe of dancers dressed in pink. Wearing a bright red two-piece set, Rodrigo belted out and jumped onstage among them—and she was greeted with roaring applause when she was done. Watch her full set here.

Rodrigo’s appearance at the VMAs comes less than a week after she released her second album, Guts. She spoke to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 about gaining confidence as a performer last week.

“My first two performances ever were the BRITs and SNL, and so I think I felt definitely not prepared for that,” she said. “I think going on tour and night after night being surrounded by so much positive, good energy, I think gave me the confidence and also just repetition and practice to be more comfortable. I think I’m definitely more comfortable on stage now than I was a year ago.”
