If you were one of the many of us concerned about the conclusion of The White Lotus—mainly, a looming feeling of withdrawal around seeing this group of wealthy, out-of-touch resort guests clash with staff (and one another)—we have some good news: this won't be the end.

While we've been enjoying every scene of writer/director Mike White's six-part series, the good news is that the show has seemingly been reimagined into an anthology. So while the story of Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge), Armond (Murray Bartlett), and the rest of the gang may be coming to an end, there's at least some cathartic release knowing that HBO is bringing back its heralded writer to do it all over again.

White, who previously was behind the Laura Dern series Enlightened for HBO, has also written movies like The School of Rock and Orange County, and was even one of the writers for cult favorite series Freaks and Geeks back in the '90s. He's been a dependable and prolific writer for quite a while, and especially with how good The White Lotus has been in Season 1, it's exciting to know he'll have the keys and freedom to make another season.

But what could this Season 2 be all about? And is it definitely happening? More on that below.

Will there be a Season 2 of The White Lotus?

The White Lotus was originally conceived as a limited series by HBO and White. But just like with shows like Big Little Lies and True Detective before it, HBO made the decision to bring the buzzy series back for more.

The premium cable giant announced on August 10 that the show will return for another installment. In an official press release, HBO wrote that Season 2 "leaves Hawaii behind and follows a different group of vacationers as they jet to another White Lotus property and settle in temporarily amongst its inhabitants."

What will Season 2 of The White Lotus be about?

Before the official pick-up, White said in an interview with TV Line that he wanted to do a Season 2, but it would need to be set at a different hotel than the one we saw in Hawaii. “It would have to be a different hotel, like, say, The White Lotus: San Tropez or something," he said.

We'd also venture to say that Season 2 would probably follow many similar beats as Season 1: the distinction and juxtaposition between the out-of-touch nature of the hotel's guests and the working people at the hotel. Maybe there would even be another mystery (murder or something else) added in for good measure.

Who would be in the cast?

While HBO's press release suggests that Season 2 will follow "a different group of vacationers," White said in that same TV Line interview that it would be possible for some characters from Season 1 to show up in future installments.

“I don’t think you can credibly have [all the Season 1 guests] on the same vacation again,” he said. “But maybe it could be a Marvel universe type thing, where some of them would come back."

He also added that the Season 1 cast were all on 1-year contracts, so they would have to do some extra homework just to see who would even conceivably be available. Naturally, though, the casting for new White Lotus characters would be quite a fun thread to follow.

Similarly to how the star-studded Knives Out 2 cast (featuring Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Kathryn Hahn, and really countless others) was slowly rolled out to the excitement of everyone on social media, we'd only imagine that after a buzzy and critically acclaimed first season that starred fan favorites like Connie Britton, Steve Zahn, and Jake Lacy, White would have his pick of great performers for the second time around.
